Proos Roofing Supplies relies on the availability of its delivery vehicles. The company has a network of depots throughout the UK, supplying products to thousands of customers and imposing heavy demands on its fleet of trucks.

By 1997, many of the vehicles were nearing the end of their useful lives, and the company was facing the high cost of replacement. Also, with each depot responsible for running and maintaining just one or two trucks, servicing was spread amongst many different suppliers, with varying quality standards and costs.

It was time for a change of transport strategy, Proos Roofing Supplies decided to look for a single partner who would come in, study the complete picture and come up with a solution for the entire fleet. The Ryder Solution

After conducting a thorough analysis of the Proos operations and transport needs, Ryder tailored a proposal for upgrading and managing the truck fleet on the company's behalf on a contract hire basis.

The older, less economical trucks have now been replaced with new vehicles to agreed specifications, painted in Proos livery. Also, locally arranged servicing has given way to a centrally managed programme of preventative maintenance.

Today, Ryder is responsible for supplying and maintaining a fleet that ranges from 35 cwt dropsides to 26 tonne dropsides with hydraulic brick-grab cranes, and further trucks are currently on order. Proos Roofing Supplies have also taken advantage of the flexibility of Ryder Full Service Contract Hire, which can cover options such as fuel and lubricants, tyres, vehicle washing, insurance, drivers, Operator's License documentation, additional peak-season vehicles and used vehicle disposal.
